Event planning is no child’s play it can be really hard to get the hang of it. Most might think it is all play, fun and no work at all, well sorry to burst your bubble, there’s a lot of hard work and brain cracking that goes into event planning, it can be horrific and scary at some point. By taking on a decision to plan an event, whether it is a large-scale affair or just a birthday party, you are playing a huge role and everyone is practically looking up to you to make the event a success. For the professional event planners and those that have been in the business for quite some time, they will be able to handle themselves well, but for those that are new to this, you will need to take some time to sit down, write your plans out and try to avoid falling into any pit that will be hard to get out of.

Here are some of the common mistakes most amateur event planners make,  do your best to take note of them and try to avoid them, so as not to be a victim.

#1. Not Paying Attention To Details

Exhausting it can be for an event planner although it can be very exciting. There is a lot of paper work involved, contract signing and clients that you will be dealing with. Although you might want to rush things and get one thing over and done with so you can concentrate on other things, I would advise you to take time and read every single detail and paper work that is brought to you. Pay attention to what is written, do not take a quick glance at it and sign it without understanding what you have read. Do not be fooled by another person’s sweet talk, if you have read something that you cannot understand, take it to your attorney or someone experience to explain and break it down to you in a simple term.

#2. No Insurance To Cover Your Events

Another common mistake that most novice event planners make is forgetting to cover the events with proper insurance. It is not to say the event might end off badly or something might go wrong, then again you never know, prevention is better than cure after all. Event insurance covers you from facing penalties and fiscal damages that might occur during the event, you will be covered as the insurance states.

#3. Putting All Your Eggs In One Basket

A little help from others can ease the burden off your head, nevertheless, as a newbie, do not try to put all your hope and trust completely in other people. Friends and loved ones will want to lend a hand, do not hesitate to accept their kind gesture. Apart from trusting them to help you out, do not sit down waiting for them to come give you what you want. Get up and go about your daily activities, work hard to get things sorted out.

#4. No Effective Communication

Communication is the key to a successful team work spirit, getting your message across to others clearly will enable them to know what you want and agree on terms. When proper communication is in place, there will be no room for misunderstanding and each task can be carried out efficiently.

#5. Encouraging Others To Treat You As A Softy

As someone that is new to event planning, some clients might want to take advantage of that and run over you. Because of your little knowledge in such things, you will not be able to know how much to charge, the limits to set and other things you have not yet come to understand. If you consistently continue to allow them to use you, you would not be able to make enough income and you will overwork yourself. It’s high time you toughen up.
