Food is one of the most important components that add up in making a wedding a success. The last thing anyone will want is to serve guests with inappropriate food on the wedding day. It will always be remembered as ‘the wedding that had bad food’ because in every wedding guests expect to eat something nice.  Not only should the menu be appropriate for a wedding, it should also go in line with the style of the wedding. This is why we have come up with tips to help you avoid making a disaster wedding menu.

Menu

#1. Variety

It is important that you diversify your menu as much as possible. Since there are going to be people from different places, cultures, etc  your menu should be flexible enough for everyone to have something to munch on. Take into consideration people with dietary limitations such as vegetarians, people that won’t like very spicy dishes, the kids etc. This is why you should get an experienced caterer that can give you good advice on this.

#2. Something new

Most people would try a new dish on a buffet table especially if it looks yummy, because they know that if they don’t like it, they can always try something else. If they do like it then they will most likely talk about it even after the wedding, (which is what we want right!) Some people would like to play it safe and provide dishes that people are familiar with but why do that when you can give your guests a unique treat. If you already have a secret recipe then present it to your caterer, otherwise ask her and see is she could come up with something different just for your wedding. Just make sure you taste it before you give the final go-ahead. Remember to give attention to the presentation of dishes as well, it counts a lot.

#3. Budget

Setting a budget is one of the first things you do when planning a wedding. After you’ve allocated the amount for food, present it to your caterer. This way your caterer can guide you in your choices and give you the best deal your money can afford. if your budget is low, you might not have everything you wanted but your caterer should be able to make you happy at the end of the day.

#4. Cater for enough

I can’t place anymore emphasis on how important it is to provide enough food for your guests. It will be really embarrassing if only some of your guests get to eat and the food finishes. Some guests will even go home angry at you. So, to be on the safe side and budget with your caterer for at least 10 extra people outside the guest list. When it comes to cases like this it is always better to have more than less.

#5. Consider the duration of the wedding

If the wedding is only going to last for an hour or less then maybe finger foods and cocktails will do. If it is going to be a whole day event then you must supply guests with something that can sustain them.

There is no one menu for all types of weddings. It all varies based on your budget, taste and type of guests you’re inviting. Bottom line is you should try to make every bite memorable.
